The sources of the images depicted are varied, but they have in common that in most of the mages the human body is twice relegated. Some exceptions to this trend are figured from the Bolivian highlands that present people and families I lived with during some of my travels throughout South America.
Most other figures are representations of dolls, usually used and broken, Renaissance sculptures, such as Michelangelo’s David, or classical antiquity statues, mainly from the Greek and Roman cultures, particularly from the island of Delos.
The Delos series take as its motive two of the statues from the island where Greek mythology located the birthplace of the gods Apollo and his twin sister Artemis. The island was a major religious center and port during the 1st millennium B.C. The representation of the statues which depict the mythological twins is repeated in the series, with a similar composition, but with variations of colors and textures. Repetition allows the viewer to spend time with these images as well as to see them in a variety of ways.
