Gustavo Fares (American, b. Argentina 1957) is an artist, critic, and curator.

Fares holds a Master’s in Painting and Lithography from West Virginia University, a Ph. D. from the University of Pittsburgh, and a Professor of Painting and Drawing Degree from the “Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes Prilidiano Pueyrredon” in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he also completed post-graduate studies at the “Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes Ernesto de la Carcova.”

His art is in both private and public collections and has been exhibited in the United States, Argentina, Spain, France, and Mexico. He has taught painting and drawing at the University of Lynchburg, Lawrence University Bjorklunden Summer Seminars, and at the University of Virginia Semester at Sea program, when he traveled around the world on the M.V. Explorer vessel in the Fall of 2008, and around the Mediterranean in the Summer of 2011.

In his works, Fares uses traditional materials, such as oil and acrylic on canvas and paper, as well as computer generated images and collages. His visual interests include the exploration of imagery linked to visual spaces as they relate to language structures and philosophy of art.
